About this collection

Hats have been practical and fashionable head coverings for as long as humans have needed to protect (and adorn) their heads. Over the centuries, as cultures have evolved and transformed, hat styles have reflected these changes. This photo collection highlights many different styles worn by people with some connection to historic Huntsville. It is a time capsule which captures eras when men and women wore some kind of head covering almost everywhere they went, a practice which, though not altogether extinct, is certainly no longer a standard item in everyone’s wardrobe.
