On the back of this photograph , it reads , "Nonstop to West Coast . Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held at the jetport Sunday afternoon in honor of the new United Airlines nonstop flight between Huntsville and Los Angeles . Stewardesses Gabriel Hartman and Linda Kaufmann hold the ribbon as Will I . Hardy , United's Huntsville sales manager , James Record , chairman of the county commission , Huntsville Mayor Joe Davis , and G.O . "Red " Grainger , United's Huntsville area manager , look on. " On October 13 , 1969 , United Airlines introduced a nonstop Boeing 727-100 flight from Huntsville to Los Angeles , California . United first served Huntsville when it merged with Capital Airlines in 1960 , and then began to expand service in the late 1960’s .
